You know, every year we go through the rigmarole of switching the clocks back and forward, and everyone complains. At this point I've given up worrying about the issue. Most of clocks I use being computerized to automatically change, I don't notice it as much. I have been waking up around 6:00am, so I did notice it was an hour earlier, but I went ahead and got out of bed anyway.
We live on a planet with a tilted axis, and as we travel around the sun, the focal point of the sun shifts, and thus the seasonal change and and loss of time. The point of daylight savings time is to maximize the available sunlight hours. It's how to maintain a diurnal rhythm in an era where our lives are tied to the clock. Back in the 70's they tried moving to permanent daylight savings time, and the experiment didn't work. The article points out some schools and businesses even changed their schedules to work around the early morning darkness.
The choices are you can either arbitrarily adjust the clocks, or everyone has to adjust their schedules. So in the end, Daylight Savings Time is the simplest solution.
